Goodreads asked Elyse M. Fitzpatrick:

How do you get inspired to write?

Elyse M. Fitzpatrick Generally, I start writing when there is something burning in me that I want to study--such as I did with "Helper by Design" and "Found in Him" and will do with the book of Hebrews.
At other times I write when I'm irritated by stupid things people are saying and want to set the record straight, or when I know that people need help in some area and I want to give them a resource.
I'm not sure that authors who write non-fiction need to be inspired, at least not in the same way that those who write fiction do.
