Read. Read as much as you can. It'll not only make you a better writer, but you often have less time for it when you're writing yourself. So, read as much as you can in everything that interests you. Don't limit yourself to the genre you plan to write in. Ideas are everywhere. I've found just as much inspiration while reading nonfiction as while reading fiction.
