What was the toughest thing the research or the actual writing?

Susan Wittig Albert Research is always, always fun, always spiced with the pleasure of discovery. A WILDER ROSE was tough to write, because the true story is so different from the story we've believed for decades, and because I knew that many readers would simply refuse to accept it. I had to find ways to get past that resistance. Not easy!

This is the first book of yours that I am going to read (Bittersweet) and I see it is book 23. Do I have to read the other book first or is this a stand alone? And I just saw that you were born in Maywood. I grew up in Broadview, graduated from Proviso East in 1964.
