I'm really quite confused about the description of Danish winter in this book: she describes -20°C weather, frozen sea, mounds of snow, and hardly any hours of daylight. However, a bit of research suggests to me that the climate is temperate, with a mean January temperature of 1.5°C, and Denmark is at the same latitude as Scotland, so day length in winter is really quite similar to the UK. Was she just unlucky?

My guess is that was a bit of author embellishment. Negative temperatures of any number may as well be sub-arctic to many who are sensitive to the cold (not me!!)
