Jenny asked Jordan Castillo Price:

Would you ever consider making your books accessible via Kindle Unlimited? My local library has only up to Book 8 of the PsyCop series and not much else. I’m flying through them, they’re great, and you have a whole other series I want to try but my library isn’t great at buying ebooks recommended to them and in the back of my mind, I’m wailing because I’m going to run out.

Jordan Castillo Price Great question! I am planning on putting my ABCs of Spellcraft series into KU March 1 to see how that goes.

Let me dig up the announcement I made a couple weeks ago in my January newsletter for everyone who didn't see it...ah, here it is:

Short version: I will be putting The ABCs of Spellcraft series into Kindle Unlimited (KU) March 1. There are no current plans to place PsyCop there because exclusivity would be hard to swing.

Long version: Kindle Unlimited is an Amazon subscription-based service that allows subscribers to read an unlimited amount of books for a set monthly price. I love that idea. I use KU myself and especially like trying out new-to-me authors that way. But in order to enroll my books, I would have to make them exclusive to Amazon. That’s the rule.

I’m one of the old-timers whose ebooks predate Kindle Unlimited (Among the Living was first published in 2006 and the Kindle device itself didn’t come out until late 2009), and so by the time KU came around in 2014, my books were already up for sale at various online retailers and in public libraries. Since a portion of my readership preferred to shop at stores other than Amazon, I didn’t want to make it difficult for them to follow a series they’d been following for years.

Money is tight these days, though, and so I decided to see if a newer series that was less entrenched at other retailers might be a good fit for KU. Crunching my numbers, I found that only 10% of Spellcraft customers purchased somewhere other than Amazon. And only 6 libraries are carrying the ebooks. So I think I would be serving a larger number of readers by making The ABCs of Spellcraft available in Kindle Unlimited.

Note, you do not need to subscribe to KU to buy the stories from Amazon like normal. They just will no longer be available at other retailers, and you will have the option to read them free with a KU subscription.

I’ll move Spellcraft to KU March 1, 2021. So if you prefer to purchase elsewhere, now’s the time. And if you already subscribe to KU and you’re looking for a cute, lighthearted paranormal romp, clear your reading calendar and get ready.

If you’d like news specifically about my KU titles, update your JCP News newsletter subscription to include “KU Corner.”
