How do I write a book even if the idea has been taken?

Jeanine Englert Hi Lily! I think you can always take a concept or trope that you have seen before, like the ill-fated love story of Romeo and Juliet, and give it an updated twist by adding in your own new characters and setting.

It's all about the goals, motivations, and conflicts that you give the unique characters that you create. To me, building those characters that only you can, because they are yours, is what can make a story new and fresh.
