Rhianwen the Elf-Heart
Rhianwen the Elf-Heart asked Gail Carson Levine:

Hi there! I was wondering, do you have any tips on keeping your “style” of writing consistent? In your Writing Magic book you said your voice would change from scene to scene, but I also found that my voice changes depending on what book I’m reading. It is sometimes kind of frustrating, because if I’m reading a book with a style that I don’t like much, it tends to leak into my writing too. Thanks for your time!

Gail Carson Levine I'd suggest that when you finish your story you put it aside for a few weeks. After a few weeks, when that other writer's voice has subsided, you can revise it away.

A great place for questions like this one is my blog, where several writers are likely to have ideas and suggestions.
