The ones about the little girl watching the eclipse with her dad? They were a reference to another Stephen King book I believe, Gerald's Game. It was also made into a movie and as she was describing it, it matched up with a scene from the movie.

Dolores Claiborne and Gerald's Game were written as "twin novels," both have events happening during the same eclipse, and in both novels the protagonists have visions of the other. They were published in the same year, months apart. The little girl in question is Jessie Mahout (Burlingame). If you want the other side to this event, read Gerald's Game!

In prologue it mentions how the eclipse would effect / link 2 people who watched it, one of which was Doloris and the other a young girl who grows up to be (i think) the protagonist of Gerald's Game?
Not sure how or why they were linked but it was like King just wanted add an sliver of the supernatural to this story?
