I'm fairly sure this is like a prequel from Cardan's point of view. Happens before the events of Cruel Prince, of course, but I would recommend that you finish Wicked King & Queen of Nothing before reading. It might foreshadow things that will happen in the rest of the series, and to get the full experience it would be best to read in release order as intended.
