what is the significance of the wurse?

Keya Wurse is an integral part of the fairy tales mentioned in the book. In real life, it could also be considered a dog. They are brave creatures who protect the princesses and could only be killed when their heart gets broken. Throughout the book, Elsa (the protagonist) and the wurse play out an important role riding through friendships and heartbreaks.
