Goodreads asked J.P. Chandler:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

J.P. Chandler I don't get writer's block in the sense of not being able to write or not being able to come up with a story to work on. I do have trouble at times when something in a story is not working and can't figure out how to fix it. Often it is a matter of knowing some important element is missing. The key is usually breaking the scene down to its critical elements and then moving the pieces around to see how they work.

The reason I don't get writer's block is because I keep a file of ideas that is constantly growing. Anytime a new idea comes along, I write it down in the file, even if it's only a single sentence. If I ever find myself in need of something to write, I break out that file. I either build on the ideas listed or I pick an idea to turn into a full story.
