I just finished the book, and I still don't know why Ann kept her past (working with Hartnell, her relationship with Miriam) a secret from Heather. Couldn't she have mentioned this without touching upon her harrowing relationship with Jeremy?

I also wondered why Ann didn't keep in touch with Miriam when she went to Canada. Miriam knew about the pregnancy and would have love to hear how her friend was doing and when the baby was born. Sad that they both missed so many years in which they could have continued their friendship!
