Goodreads asked David Eugene Perry:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

David Eugene Perry Trust your own voice. As Ann Beattie once said: "only write what only you can write." Also, watch people and listen to them. I love making notes in cafes - the best people watching around. And, when you write - make sure you're not distracted by reading someone else's work. And, of course - the only real advice: to be a writer, you must write -- every day.
