The order of publishing - Practical Magic, Rules of Magic and Magic Lessons - also reflect a consistent improvement in terms of style and story. So if you go with the logical order of the story you won't like Practical Magic that much. Also, there's a difference between the book and movie, the movie being better in my opinion.

Any order works. I loved them all. I think MAGIC LESSONS is my favorite, then THE RULES OF MAGIC, and then PRACTICAL MAGIC.
Pamela
I totally agree with Calina's comment. Practical Magic was published years before Rules of Magic and now Magic Lessons. I also liked the Practical Magic movie more than the book which is unusual for me. I loved Rules of Magic and reading Magic Lessons now and really loving it. SO, read in any order you like.

This is technically the prequel to both Practical Magic and The Rules of Magic, so you could definitely read this one first if you wanted to. However, all books can be read as one-offs if you so choose.
Shelby York
Personally, because I read them in the order they were published, I think reading from Practical Magic to Magic Lessons is the best way to read and understand the Owen's family, and have your questions answered as you read along in the series.
Charli Fox
I recommend reading in the order of publishing.
