I only have the first book and enjoyed it, but don't plan on reading the next books since they aren't available at my local library.

In regards to the ending:
There is a lead into the second book at the end, but I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger. I'm perfectly content with not reading the rest of the series, but to each their own.(less)
