Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Emilya Naymark My husband’s adventures as an undercover junkie were a gigantic inspiration. I had the added benefit of occasionally hearing his colleagues’ stories, and the women’s experiences had a deep effect on me. Much like Ginger Rogers, they had to do everything the men did, but in dresses and high heels.

The wildly beautiful Hudson Valley landscapes with their cliffs, woods, rivers, and mysteriously half-vanished ghost towns practically birthed the story’s atmosphere all on their own.
