Goodreads asked Mary L. Hamilton:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mary L. Hamilton Since Taylor was a bully in the first book, Hear No Evil, it was a challenge making him a sympathetic character. I've been around sports enough to know some coaches are hardest on their own kids, and I've been around boys enough to know their love for cars. So I developed the idea around those two facts. Taylor needed someone in his court, someone who loved and accepted him, so I fashioned his relationship with his sister after the special relationship I had with a younger brother. Only we didn't get into that much trouble!
