Tim P asked:

Is the sanctuary in this book run vegan? I like the idea of the book, but don't know if I could deal with the hypocrisy of the type of "animal lovers" that love dogs and cats but still view all other animals like cows, pigs, etc as products to be killed.

Mark Cofta The dogs eat "kibble" and the cats eat donated cat food, so it's not strictly vegan. Another reader says there is "lots of animal neglect," but I don't agree. The sanctuary's circumstances are difficult when Mona and Gideon run it by themselves, but they do not neglect the animals, although more laborers and resources would help them do better.
Mauri Baumann I'm reading it and very animal-oriented.....All animals--Mona even serves vegan/vegetable Thanksgiving
Susan Jackson No destruction of animals but lots of animal neglect
Kim Bakos I haven't gotten far in the book yet, but in the first couple of chapters there is an offer made on the farm, and one stipulation is that NONE of the animals can ever be destroyed.
