Goodreads asked Pippa DaCosta:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Pippa DaCosta Until recently, in my twenty five plus years of writing, I hadn't experienced the spectre of writer's block. When it did hit, it took me a few hours to realise what was happening, and a few days to come out of it. The words wouldn't come. The characters wouldn't talk to me. I kept going back over what I'd written, and started deleting it, writing it again, then deleting it. My palms were sweaty, my heart raced a little... Writer's block, I thought. Wow. Once I recognised it, I was able to sit back and analyse why it had happened. Pressure. My body - under stress - had switched into fight-or-flight mode, and there ain't no way to get creative when you're heart's racing and your thoughts are jumbled. How did I deal with it? I wrote through it. One word at a time. Editing, be damned. I trudged through what felt like word-syrup and eventually, after a few days (and a blog post), I came out of it. It's not something I wish to happen often - but having recognised the signs, I know, when it does happen, it's not the end of the world.
