Goodreads asked Linda Shantz:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Linda Shantz When I was a young, horse-crazy girl, I always wondered why there were no novels on the Queen's Plate, when there were numerous ones about the Kentucky Derby. After all, the Plate is the longest continuously-run sporting event in North America, and has such an interesting history. Eight-year-old me decided to right that wrong, and a much older me, after having actually worked at the racetrack, rewrote the story into something more grown-up – which became my debut novel, Good Things Come.

As a side note, there is another novel which also revolves around the Plate, called Noble Madness. I read it several times!
