Goodreads asked Edward Swing:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Edward Swing Don't be afraid to get your ideas out. Join a writing group and learn from each other. There's nothing like sharing experiences and advice, and having your work reviewed by fellow writers.

At the same time, make sure you have a good command of grammar, and read some writing advice. I can't count the number of submissions I've read within my writing group where the writer uses incomplete sentences, bad grammar, or improper punctuation. No one is perfect, but these can distract a reader from your actual story or muddle what you're trying to say.

Develop a thick skin. You're going to get criticism. Some of it will be deserved, some of it will be misguided. Your manuscript will never be perfect. But if you keep at it, and listen and learn, it can be great.
