My estranged brother died in March of 2018, and I only found out about it this year. We never did make amends, and I regret this. I felt moved to write a "what if" ending for him. What if he'd found his way out of the dysfunction of the life he was living (on drugs, on the street)? It was hard for me to write Redeemer on the Roadside, at least at first, but in giving him a posthumous redemption, I also redeemed my hardened heart.
