Does anyone else cringe at the way Murakami describes women in the book? At first, I was surprised at the absence of any acknowledgement of the role others (especially his wife) play in his running and writing journey. But the moment he describes the "pretty girls" from Harvard in "revealing bikinis".. i just want him to STOP.

I thought this was well known about his fiction works, which are ridled with his 'male gaze'. But surprised to hear you noticed it even in his non fiction book!!! I read this some time back... maybe I missed it :(
