Kim Harrison You're absolutely right that this is an individual choice from author to author. I personally have not seen any fan fiction of the Hollows, but if I did, I'd have to ask them to desist to protect my intellectual rights.

I know a lot of writers get their start writing fan fiction, but I've always felt that that cheats the writer of one of the most rewarding, gratifying aspects of the job: seeing something you created grow from an idea to a character or world so real that you could almost live in it. Borrowing that base from someone else... you cheat yourself.
