Christian asked Elizabeth George:

Hi, Elizabeth George. I have two questions for you. 1) Do I have to know every single aspect in police work before writing a murder mystery? 2) How much time it takes before you complete a novel? Thank you for answering! CK

Elizabeth George My fellow crime novelist Colin Dexter once said, "I think if you're going to write these kinds of novels, it's best to know as little about police work as possible." There's truth in this. A real murder investigation requires a cast of hundreds of people, but you can't do that in a novel because it would be so confusing. So you have to give it the feeling of real police work, which requires that you know the essentials of what everyone would be doing and make sure someone in doing it, even if "off screen".
