A…moreThe Wordsworth Classics Maude translation of War and Peace is not abridged, so I'm guessing the shorter length is just a result of tight formatting. A different font face, font size, line height, and page margins can make a huge difference over the course of a long book.

I recommend the updated Maude translation, published in 2010 by Oxford, edited by Amy Mandelker.
