Steve Sokol I'd actually start with Cloud Atlas as his most complete work. The other books all relate back, almost creating a meta-Cloud Atlas.

I agree that Jacob de Zoet was the best book by far. But all of them are enlightened having read the others.

Utopia Ave. would be fine as a standalone. It could be interesting to see a reader approach it without the additional baggage.(less)
