Could someone explain to me what happened between Vanessa and Henry Plough, and why? And what happened between Henry Plough and Strane? I feel that I didn't properly understand what was going on in this part of the book.

She tried to get personal information…moreI think Vanessa was trying to get Plough to have a relationship with her similar to the one she had with Strane. She tried to get personal information about him, she tried to scope out his wife (who worked with Strane), and she maneuvered to spend alone time with Plough. Plough was either an extremely moral man with knowledge that student-teacher affairs usually didn't turn out well, or he had been forewarned about Vanessa and Strane. Plough acted like the adult he is and managed to always stay professional with Vanessa.(less)
