The consent is as dubious as the book description implies. The deal mentioned is exactly what you think it is. It helps a bit that the student is the one that suggests the deal, but there is a power imbalance in the relationship. In real life the arrangement would be grossly inappropriate, by romance novel standards it’s a pretty mild case of dubious consent. Shawn is definitely hesitant to perform the acts he agrees to but the vibe is more “omg I can’t believe I am doing this” than traumatized by feeling forced into it. If you need the same level of consent in books that is required in real life, this book could be an uncomfortable read. If you are used to looser standards for the sake of a story, you should enjoy this one. (less)
