(view spoiler)[Hi Stuart, I just finished the book and am still recovering from it. Loved it, though I can't wrap my brain around one thing: did Evelyn's parents know about the whole thing with Felicity? Because they wanted the portraits to be changed... But why would they go along with it, when they actually do want her to get married to Ravencourt (both for the money and as a punishment)? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[No, they didn't know about Felicity. Evelyn's parents were staying out in the gatehouse, because they couldn't stand going back to the house. The were only going into the house for the party, but... you know, they died. Evelyn and Michael had the portraits changed without telling them. (hide spoiler)]

Hello! In "The Devil and the Dark Water", when the governor general discovered that the Folly had been stolen, it's been said that the mark moved. "The eye bulged and the tail twisted away." Since the threat of Old Tom was faked the whole time, how did the mark move? There was one more instance of the mark moving but it was a rumour among the sailors so I dismissed it. Could this also be an illusion of a scared mind?

I found some kind of anchor in Evelyn Hardcastle's "Seven Dead" to her latest book "The Devil and the Dark Water". In fact, in the list of experiments, cited by the plague doctor, there is a reference to a ship of the past centuries and other experiments are listed (which alas I do not remember). Should we expect a Turton universe where everything is connected?
