My next novel 'The Abstainer' is out in September. It should have been published last month but postponed due to the current unhappy circumstances.

I loved The North Water! I picked it up ultimately because I've recently moved to Hull from the US, it caught my interest due to location, and it turned out to be a new favourite. When you decided to write this novel, was it driven more by the setting (East Yorkshire), or by the subject matter? Is arctic exploration/whaling of particular interest to you?
