Couldn't put it down! Rather than "just" a medical thriller, it's really a much richer portrayal of future threats – public health, kinetic war, cybersecurity, domestic social upheaval, etc. Hopefully the scenarios you portray in the book are far from our current reality, but does your experience researching and writing the novel lead you to worry about any similarly intertwined risks in our current moment?

Lawrence Wright Thanks, Jonathan. I'm afraid that the portraits I painted in the novel reflect my dismay at so much of our society. A war, a depression, or a pandemic is like an X-ray of the society we live in. We can see our failings all too clearly now.
