Matt asked Lawrence Wright:

Thanks for the opportunity to ask a question! Your books seem to be about a much wider variety of topics and themes than a lot of authors. How do you choose what to write about next? Is there a theme that underlies all of your book topics?

Lawrence Wright I seem to have written a lot about religion. I was a pious teenager, so I know the power of faith. I've written about Southern Baptists, Satanists, Mormons, the Jonestown cult, Scientology, a defrocked priest, an atheist, radical Islamists... it's quite a list. I think what ties them together is my curiosity about why people are drawn to believe one thing rather than another. Also, I have observed that religious beliefs are so much more influential in determining a person's behavior than political beliefs. I think reporters should pay more attention to that.
