I didn't really notice any signs of that in the book, but it would have been awesome.
I wondered if Kest was meant to be autistic, but there just wasn't enough from his character in the book for me to assume either way. I wished we got more from him, how he was so good at sword fighting, how he beat the saint, how he knew he would fight him, etc.
