Your picture surprised me and I would never guess that you are of Chinese heritage. I love your books but I have to tell you that I want more about the family connected to Tea Girl. I really didn't like how it ended and wanted more. I'm so glad she found her mother but but but ...lol Have you ever considered writing a sequel to this? When this virus lifts, I'll go to Boston's Chinatown to taste teas. Thanks!

I'm not thinking about a sequel, although a lot of people have asked about one. I like the open-ended feeling at the end of the book. I'm not going to write a sequel. My editor and I talked quite a bit about whether there should be an extra chapter. But what would be in it? In real life what would happen is that Haley and Li-yan would tell their life stories, but we already know what happened over the previous twenty years. I ended up not only not writing that chapter but cutting about ten pages from the last chapter. I think there are plenty of hints about what might or could happen. I hope people think that Haley and Sean will live happily ever after. (I cut his proposal and the plans they made for their future.) And I think there's a hint of what else could happen in the scene where Li-yan tells Ama that people know where the grove is and might be coming. Ama asks, "What are we going to do? Who's going to help us?" Well, that person is just about to walk up the hill.

Dear Ms. See, I just want to thank you for, "Shanghai Girls," and, "Dreams of Joy." I read both this summer and your historical fiction is superb. I learned so much about the horrific suffering of the Chinese people at the hands of socialism and communism. Your characters are incredible - are any based on people you know? I look forward to reading more of your books and I thank you for your work. ~Stacie
