Goodreads asked Charissa Dufour:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Charissa Dufour Everyone says "write what you know." But I think that's a load of hog-wash. Write what you want to read. I'll admit, if you've never read a murder mystery and know nothing about the genre you probably should try writing something else, but if you love to read urban fantasy, then write urban fantasy.
Write what you think is worth reading. If you don't believe in your project, no one else will.
