A Goodreads user asked Lawana Blackwell:

Is this the only place where we can find you? I know you said the book on writing by Stephen King was good. Where there any other writing books that helped you? I have only read the courtship of the Vickers daughter from you. Thank you for answering my last question. I love the way that you write. Does it take you long for each book? I am a beginning rider with only one novel out so far, so I am sorry if I’m ask

Lawana Blackwell Please don't apologize, Kayla. It's good to ask advice from anyone a little ahead of you on the same path. Writer's Digest publishes some great books you can get online or in the library. I learned the most about writing fiction from reading good contemporary authors, not just for the story, but for the "bones" of the story. How he/she handles dialogue, descriptions, point-of-view, action, settings, etc. POV (point of view) is a biggie with editors, for it's not always done correctly. I like to use third-person-limited, where you're only in one person's head in a scene. There are good websites which teach POV if you'll search online. As to your question, it once took me about a year to write a book. I'm floundering now, haven't gotten back in the routine yet but am not ready to give up. I sort of hate the contemporary story I've started, truthfully, and may ditch it to go into another direction. More than you asked for, Kayla! Wishing you well, dear!
