A lot of books get their start with something I see in the news or hear about. There really is a Search and Rescue team that collects crime scene evidence like the group in The Body in the Woods/Blood Will Tell. Girl, Stolen and The Girl I Used to Be and the upcoming The Girl in the White Van were all inspired by real local crimes, some solved, some not. Even if a book does not start with a real event, like The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die, the stuff that happens inside the book is researched. I always try hard to make my books accurate.
