Alison Rose
Alison Rose asked Juliet Marillier:

I'm currently reading (and loving!) Daughter of the Forest, and I was wondering if you could tell me how you pronounce Padraic? I asked a couple Irish friends online, but they had different answers, so I assume there might different ways to say it depending on the region. One of them said it was 'Porrick/Porrig' and the other said 'Pawdrick'. Is it one of those, or something else? Thanks!

Juliet Marillier Great question, Alison! There are lots of ways of spelling this name, and depending on which one you use it may be pronounced differently including both the pronunciations your friends supplied. Also I think it may depend on where you live in Ireland - I know that happened when I asked people how to pronounce Sorcha! I think Porrig or Pawrig is about right. (Note, in the book I spelled the name incorrectly as Padriac. A long story, based on my being a newbie at that point and not having the luxury of online research at my fingertips, and my editor not realising it was wrong.)
All the best, Juliet
