Goodreads asked Rena George:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Rena George I can't honestly say I experience writer's block, but I think that has more to do with planning rather than actually writing. I know many writers like to 'wing it' when they start a new novel, letting the characters take them where they will, and trusting that the plot will unfurl as they go along. I really admire writers who can do this, but it’s not for me. Characters inevitably take over anyway, and it’s wonderful when they do because then you know that your plot is working. But I need a plan, a framework on which to hang my story. That's not saying I will always rigidly stick to it, quite the opposite, usually, but it has to be in place as a kind of starting point.
