I tried to read the abridged version, and after 100 pages or so, simply gave up. I found it tedious at best. The book was in English, but I could not grasp the concepts presented. I need to find an author that has tackled this subject more recently than 300 years ago. I saw Rubicon suggested and also, A Noise of War. Any suggestions?
