Hello! I'm excited to read your new work, since I really loved the broken earth trilogy. It was new and real and fresh and it made an impact both in sff and in your readers' lives. How is your relationship with the translations of your work across the globe? Do you meet translators or correspond during their process, or do they have complete autonomy?

Depends -- some translators reach out to me with questions, and then I happily correspond with them. Mostly, however, the translators do whatever they want, and I never hear anything about it unless readers of that language mention it to me.

Hi N.K., in THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS and the BROKEN EARTH series, ancient beings (Sieh and Hoa) take the corporeal form of children and form very close, almost maternal relationships with key female characters. I'd love to know more about why this dynamic seems to recur in your writing? Thanks for writing!

Will I need to brush up on my plate tectonics to read this one?! Seriously, your first trilogy was heavily scientific sci/fi. I loved it, but getting into the wholly new world was hard, especially as I let too much time lag between the books. Does this new series demand as much from the reader, and is this a concern to you as the author?
