N.K. Jemisin Plotting, no tips; read lots of other writers' books on how to compose plots. Re characters who feel like real people, learn how real people work. Doesn't mean you have to get a psych degree, but observe and research people the same way you observe and research any other element of your story. Understand how our society works -- power dynamics, frex. That's any artist's job.
