Hello! I remember seeing The Blackthorn Key: The Mark of the Plague at a bookstore once. I immediately purchased both that and the first book and read both in two days. Since then, I've been a huge fan! Your writing is compelling and I love the mystery and I love all the characters (My favorite one simply has to be Lord Ashcombe). Was there any inspiration from real life for some of them?
Kevin Sands
Thank you! Lord Ashcombe is one of my favorites, too; he’s a lot of fun to write.
Except for a few historical figures—namely Charles II, the French royal family, and Jean-Baptiste Colbert—all the characters are made up, and none were inspired by real life. In general, I don’t like using real people as character models, because then you have to fit the stories to those people, rather than the other way around.
For the real people mentioned above, I did my best to write their characters to match what we know about their actual personalities.

Hello, huge fan of "The Blackthorn Key" series Which of the 4 books currently out in the series did you enjoy writing the most? Also your books and the "Into the Dark" series by Bree DeSpain helped rekindle my love for reading, I would just like to also extend a thank you for such a compelling series and cannot wait for the next book in the series. I am also eager for the new book though, I trust it will be amazing.
