Goodreads asked Deepti Srivatsan:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Deepti Srivatsan I am not going to tell anything that hasn't been said already. Read. Read widely and read everyday. All the books on writing advise you to write at least 1000-2000 words every single day without a break. It's great advice, and I fully agree that the more frequently you write, the easier it is for you. Not just to keep going, but the quality of your work also improves.
BUT- practically it's impossible for many of us to write everyday. And I honestly think we shouldn't beat ourselves over it. This is creative work and ideas may not pop up everyday. You will find yourself unable to think a single word on a particular day and it's OK. Be kind to yourself. Pick up a book you like and be inspired.
