When I first started writing I was a columnist, and I wrote articles for a few E-Zines before I started writing books. If I'm struggling, I'll usually find a few writing prompts and try writing a couple articles.
If that doesn't work, I'll usually take a theme from whatever I'm currently working on, and write a quick scene about it.
