Why does Mr. Rochester call Jane, Janet?

LeAnne Hi! In the original novel, Mr. Rochester sometimes calls Jane by the name Janet, as a sort of pet name. I'm the author, and I knew it was kind of a risk to use the nickname, since most people, even if they have read Jane Eyre, would probably have forgotten about his use of the name. I liked it however, and kept it, because it felt true to the characters. But I can see why it might be confusing.
