The simple answer is that sometimes a case resonates with me, so I develop a strong interest in it. That is especially true if I find the behavioral profiling aspect of it to be intriguing. I worked with Richard Walter, one of the pioneers of criminal profiling, for 14 years. While I am not a "profiler" per se, some of what he does inevitably rubbed off on me.
