Goodreads asked Lora Cheadle:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Lora Cheadle Aspiring writers need to write. The best way to get good at this craft is to practice. Have people read your work, listen to what they have to say, and write it again.

Also, ask yourself why you want to write. If you enjoy writing, then write! Not everyone has to publish to be a success. If you enjoy writing, then write!

My grandparents each wrote stories of their lives for the benefit of themselves and their families. They never sought to publish their work because that wasn't their interest. Sometimes we get locked into thinking that writing means publishing and that's not always the case.

Just like fishing isn't catching, it is perfectly acceptable for you to write for you own reasons and not anybody else's.
