Karen asked Holly Black:

Was the librarian in Doll Bones inspired by any particular librarian? Did you use the library a lot when you were a kid?

Holly Black The librarian in Doll Bones wasn't inspired by any particular librarian, but if it was inspired by any group of them, it was the group I went to library school with when I was first working on The Spiderwick Chronicles. I almost got my MLIS from Rutgers, although I left school to concentrate on touring and writing, I learned so much about reading and the history of children's literature while I was there. And I made some great librarian friends.

As a kid, I was a terrible library patron, however. I was (and am) very possessive about books and, even as a kid, always had huge overdue fees.
